About Hermanus Waldorf School
The school started in 1994 with a few children and is now able to cater for 200. It is a non-profit, independent school registered with the Department of Education. It offers pre-school and primary education to children of all races based on the internationally recognised Waldorf Curriculum. Hermanus is 65 miles south east of Cape Town on the coast.
What is Hermanus Waldorf School UK Support Group?
The Group formed in 2005, primarily by individuals who had visited the School in April of that year. As a result of that visit, and the contacts made with the Teachers and children, there was a strong connection to its aims and ideals, and a wish to foster support. Up until the forming of the Group, tremendous achievements had been made over the previous 6 years in fundraising by one individual.
Quote "When I saw the school I knew my support was worthwhile and beneficial"
How does the Support Group make a difference?
The School requires donations to cover a shortfall in the finances as it receives only a proportion from the State. It works hard to make every Rand count. The buildings are financed from a source outside South Africa.
The UK Support Group specialises in maintaining education in the classroom with the funds it raises helping to pay teachers wages and providing equipment, often basic, that the children would otherwise not have.
